this may seem like a dumb question, but im a bit suspicious about this
issue.
i have about 1gb of physical memory in my pc right now, and a few tracks
im working on, with several plugins running etc, the sequencer program
im using cant playback the track without breaking up with all the plugs
on. i can go up to 2 gb with this motherboard.
what i want to know is, how much will doing that ACTUALLY help?
will it? will i actually be able to use more plugins before running
across these problems?
thanks.

I highly doubt it's the ram, more likely just running out of CPU, perhaps a
hard drive issue.

What software and hardware are you using? You certainly don't need more
memory!

Using Windows? Do Ctrl-Alt-Del and click on task manager. Click the
Processes tab. Start your sequencer, and watch the memory usage for the
sequencer app. If it's huge, say 600 MB, then you might need more RAM.

I think you have another problem. Is this a dedicated audio workstation?

Plugins generally need a little memory and a lot of processor power.

Plugins which are sample players with big sample sets definitely
benefit from lots of memory.

What program? What plugins? You aren't giving us much to go on.
