how do i low level format a....

will be getting a 2.5" laptop HDD tomorrow. i was told that the drive have bad sectors. i'm going to put the drive in a external HDD housing, so i could use it as a portable drive. so is it possible for me to do a low level format inside xp?? while the drive is plugged into the usb port??

not too sure, some mobos have that option in the bios...

I don't think you can LLF it a regular format yes, the safest option would be to swap it out temporarily and LLF it in the laptop.
