Yeah... so there was a power surge at my house yesterday and my computer was on. They've happened before and it has been fine, but yesterday I checked the computer after the power surge and it no longer wants to turn on. The power bar is fine (monitor connected to it turns on) and so is the power cable (tried it on the computer I'm typing on) so... I don't know what's wrong.
I read some stuff about starting currents on power supplies and that mine could have been lowered by the surge. Or that maybe some of the parts got fried.
Very hard to tell. First thing is to remove any unnecessary components and hope that it boots, although there's only a marginal chance that it might help.
What brand/wattage is your PSU? Might give us a clue as to how robust it is. In fact, post your full PC specs.
My CPU runs so hot it creates a quark-gluon plasma
mmm my guess is that the power surge somehow damaged the PSU in your system.
You wcan try completely unplugging it and leaving it for an hour. This might or mightnot reset anything that has tripped inside the PSU.
Better quality psu's have overload protection.

I finally got around to swapping power supplies and sure enough the computer powered up. I didn't have time to switch all the cables going into HDD, etc. so I'm not sure if anything else is broken, but I'm confident the fan on the CPU spun up and I saw the LEDs on the motherboard light up. Good signs.
I guess I'm in the market for a new PSU. Any suggestions? My previous was a 300W "Power Man". I made my computer 2 or 3 years ago so I shouldn't need huge power.
Yeah probably best to scroung up a 300 or 350W psu.
Its debatably getting a quality brand one, but u might be able to get an affordable fortron 300W unit. Good power and reliable.
Also if you live in an area with lots of power problems you might want to consider either a surge protector or a UPS unit.
