Photos on my Zire 71 that I copy to my SD card won't hotsync to my PC
(Windows 2000 Pro). There are 2 folders on my PC under Palm Photos -
"Handheld" and "Card", but the card folder remains empty.

Anyone know why this is? Bug?

When I copy the photos back to the handheld from the card, they are
still not copied to my PC :o(

Anyone know of a workaround to get the pics onto my PC (short of
buying a card reader)?

Nope; the card folder, if I understand correctly, only contains images
installed to the card through the Palm desktop software. If you
installed the images to the card using hotsync on a given machine,
those photos should be there. If you installed them on a different
machine, they won't be. Hotsyncing "to the card", per say, isn't
actually synchronizing, but merely installing. In addition, if someone
else uses the computer you installed the images to, they may have
deleted the images from the desktop folder, which I believe is a
sub-folder of the "my pictures" folder.

I think it's just the way it's written. True synchronization to a card
would be a massive pita, especially when you consider the issues
involved when a user owns more than one card.

Are you certain of this? This is a situation I have never seen, and
I've done this procedure a few times. Do they show up on the desktop
in the unfiled or all categories? Same question for the hand held?

I *highly* recommend buying a card reader, and if you're using fast SD
cards, making sure that card reader is USB 2.0. $20 for a jump drive
trio that rides around in my pocket eliminates the need for dealing
with the Palm desktop for dealing with images for my hand held. Just
copy those images to and from "\DCIM\Palm Photos" at speeds much
faster than HotSync copies to the card. The Jump Drive Trio also
serves as a handy carrying case for a spare card if you have one. :-D
