The improvements in chess software is mind bogling!

I just purchased Fritz 8 Deluxe at the local games store for only $29.95 and
was so surprised at the number of features, not to mention its strength. It
is the solution to my former worse problem - openings...

Now I can practice any time.....

I'm just amazed.....

Sorry about my excitement..it's just incredible!

Looking forward to learning many new things here..

John

I suspect that your "worse problem" may not be openings, but tactics.
Practise tactics over and over and your opening play should present you
with fewer headaches....

Enjoy!

p.s. Don't forget to study endgames.

An excellent article at chessville but makes the mistake of assuming
everybody can reach expert/master level.

This simply isnt true.

It doesn't assume anything. It asserts that anyone who studies the game
*effectively* (which I never have) is capable of at least 2000-level
chess. This is quite different from "assuming everybody" can do it.

>This simply isnt true.

That simply isn't true, your assertion may be based solely upon your
having misunderstood the article.

I think it's important to analyse one's games as soon as you're finished
playing and then once more after a few days/weeks. Write down your analysis.
Now with strong computers available have it check your analysis..

Once more, thanks for the advice!!!

John

I found this to be an essential aspect of improving my game....

Well, the computers will check the tactical part of the analysis. The
positional and strategic stuff is probably still best done by humans.
Posting analysis to rec.games.chess.analysis usually gets some helpful
comments.
