Hi all,

Humble apologies if this is a tired old thread--I'm new here and my news
server has low retention.

This month's Electronic Musician suggested using analog equipment as
inserts and processors in the computer recording environment. I took a
recent mix and ran it through my FMR Audio front end setup, consisting of
their 8380 preamp and 1773 compressor. I liked the results--the acoustic
guitars in my mix seemed to smooth out a bit and weren't quite as
crystalline as in the digital mix. The whole sound had a subtle
seductiveness to these old ears.

So, naturally, I started to think about tubes and the famous and costly
tube front ends that are available from Avalon and Universal Audio. Anyone
out there using this stuff in this type of application? Any suggestions of
cost-effective alternatives? I've tried the Antares tube VST --ho humm.

Hope to hear from the gurus.

regards

Art

I'd stay away from "analog sounding plugins"....
Analog is analog.... no plugin sound nearly the same....

I've used the tube in Antares Mic Modeller to great effect. It can't
beat a real tube but it gets results which is the main thing.
