Will PC4200 DDR RAM work with this computer setup?

Hey guys,

I've just been given some PC4200 DDR RAM, but unfortuntely my brand new and expensive motherboard only supports PC2100 RAM. My question is this! Is there any way at all to get the 4200 DDR RAM to work in my system at PC2100 speed?

I realise the motherboard doesn't support PC4200 DDR RAM, but I was hoping there would be a way to enable the RAM to work with my system, until I upgrade a few years down the track with a motherboard that supports PC4200 RAM speeds.

Would that work? Or will I have to purchase PC2100 DDR RAM now for my existing motherboard, and then go ahead and purchase a new motherboard in the future, to use my PC4200 DDR RAM in?

Thanks heaps!

i wonder how much overclocking can you do with that RAM (pc4200 - [-peep-]).

as far as optimal memory is concerned with today's newer systems. I think getting a PC3200 or PC3500 ram is the best option, they still have that good CAS2.0 latency which is more important to me than the frequency.

that is a very arguable point.

For an athlon xp system this is true, because the Axp is bad at prefetching data on memory to cache. However on a p4 high frequency even at cas 3 is the best solution.

Although if the fsb cannot take advantage of the added bandwith, obviously a higher clock speed will do little to help, and in this case low latency will be the only way to improve performance.
