hey, I've got an old touchpad rescued from a dead notebook. it's a synaptics tm41pdg134-2 according to the serial number this is a more modern touchpad based on the ps\2 standard it has 4 wires coming out of it, red orange yellow green are their colors. I have split open an old mouse that has a broken button and am trying to wire this thing up. I want to use it in my carputer project. good idea eh? only trouble I'm having is that the wires from the mouses ps2 cable are of different colors than the touchpads wires. so I do not know what connects to what. I've tried several combinations. the wire colors from the mouse are orange green blue and white. and the colors from the touchpad are orange red yellow and green. any ideas what goes to what? I'd really appreciate the help.

Well, I have a chart of the PS/2 pins, but you'd also need to know which wire on the touchpad serves what function.

the problem is crash that I can find pinouts on the ps2 pins but it's hard to know what each wire goes to without completely distroying the cable! symantics has a pdf file that has a pinout too. here http://www.dodgydave.plus.com/Downloads/ACF126.pdf
lots of info there the serial number to the touchpad is tm41pdg134-2 which is useful when reading the info on that. I tried so many combinations last nite I'm exhausted. I've been trying to figure this out all day but the wires to this mouse is irritating me, if I had a multimeter I culd figure out which wire is which.. wait I might be able to do taht anyhow with a battery and led and do it that way... I think I'll try that. I just gotta figure out what color wires do what on the touch pad still. that pdf might provide some insight.

Oh! You have no multimeter!

Let me tell you a little story. A guy owed me money once and since he had none, he gave me his very expensive multimeter. But years later when I went to replace the batteries, it took a bunch of little tiny expensive batteries. So while I was shopping for batteries I came across another multimeter that was larger (but still small enough), used a 9v batter, and cost $12 at Wal-Mart.

$12 is less than the batteries for the expensive one costs, so I bought it. And whever the battery dies, I can put a cheap 9v in it.
