USB Mass Storage support on Win98 is catch-as-catch-can. Most external
USB disk drives (and drive enclosures) include a driver for Win98 that
might work if it's sufficiently generic, but if there's something
unique to the Edirol, they'd have to supply the driver. The Mackie
SDR24/96 had a USB port and at the time I had one for evaluation, the
only computers I had were Win98. Since Mackie didn't supply a driver
for the recorder, I couldn't talk to it with a computer.
You might have better luck connecting a memory card reader into your
Win98 machine and moving the memory card from the recorder to the card
reader. The USB memory card reader that I have (I use it with my
camera) came with a Win98 driver.
