in/out noise

Hi,

How much will a Y-splitter degrade the audio quality of the output? I'm thinking of using one to get to my headphones and speakers.

You wouldn't notice the difference if you could turn either of them off, but having both operating will devide the signal strength, resulting in lost volume.
