hmmm... i have done my math. I am stuck with DDR333 for the time being. So i planned to buy DDR500 now as that is the highest speed available here. I know there wont be much performance gain with this RAM, b'coz my motherboard does not like more than 210FSB. So, I cud run the CPU (a Barton 2500+) in sync with the memory at lower latency (the DDR500 Kingston Hyper-X is rated 3-4-4-8). I am planning to run it at something like 2-2-2-5 at DDR400/DDR420 speed (in sync with CPU FSB, as much as my mobo wud allow me).
The reason i opted for DDR500 over DDR400 is, i plan to buy a P4C with a good mobo in about 6-8 months time (by then the prices of P4 2.6/2.8C wud have come down, hopefully) and overclock the heck out of that CPU. I dont want to invest in a good set of memory sticks again then. Hence i am getting DDR500 now.
I cud run my CPU at 333FSB and RAM at DDR400 by suitably tweaking the BIOS settings (Memory FSB = 120% of CPU FSB). So i was wondering wud it be possible to run the RAM at 120-125% of CPU FSB even when the CPU FSB is 200, which wud be runnning my RAM at DDR500. I just wanted to know wud this setting work? wud the nFOrce2 take that much load with the stock north Bridge passive heat sink? Wud there be any appreciable performance gain?
