I am getting a new computer and I specifying an ASUS P4C800E Deluxe motherboard with a P4 2.8 800FSB processor. I will not overclock it. I will probably have one large SATA hard drive, not two so I don't intend to take advantage of data split over two drives. I would like to have 1 gb of brand name memory. What do you suggest I get? Is there any need to get matched pairs? In other words, what memory would perform adequately with my intended use of the system without getting matched expensive memory? Should it be PC2700, PC3200, or what??

Thanks.

First off go with 3200 for sure wou will loose lots of performance with PC2700. Matched stick are not required, any 2 stick with the same size and same specs should run fine. Recommanded ram if you dont wish to OC is Geil, as it perform well at the rated speed but wont do much more.
A bit more expensive alternative are Kingston,Crucial,corsair,ocz...
