I'm in the market for a new LCD monitor, and thus far, I've been impressed with what I've seen from Samsung, in particular, the 172x. However, the newer model 710t recieved good reviews, and is slightly cheaper. For a little more, I could go up to the 910t and get a 19" screen.

Anyone seen these screens side by side? I'm particularly interested in how they perform for movie watching.

If you will wait another week... I just bought 172x for myself, and I love it. I'll get 710t in my work next week, so I will be able to compare them :). Unfortunately, I don't use my monitor for watching movies, I have 32" wide-screen TV for that :). For my usual tasks (games, java developing, demoscene, net surfing) 172x works just great.
AFAIK LCDs are poor for movie watching, when compared to CRTs. For all other tasks, LCD kicks CRT's ass.

I have a 710T and love it. I believe it uses the same panel as the 172X, so performance should be similar. I just needed to tweak the colors a bit, easily done through Magic Tune, and it was ready to go.

Hey, the Samsungs are very very nice monitors, but you should also check uot the dell ultra sharp models, I saw one 17" with a 1000:1 contrast ratio for under $300, very reasonable price i thought. (I passed on it though as dell takes sooo long to ship and also I cant bear to have anything dell anywhere near my hand built computer :p)
Worth a look tho,

Tommy

uuuugh...Dell. Too much sweat and blood went into the building of this Frankensteinian computer to desecrate it with Dell anything.

I got to see the Samsungs side by side, and would have chosen the 172x, if, next to those, there hadn't been a 213t. Now to find the extra $500 to buy it....

BTW: the difference between them is the 17X (and 19X, 21X, etc) use a PVA panel (the samsung version of the MVA), and the 71X (91X etc) use a TN panel.

Blah, they did not have 710t in stock, so my company bought me something similiar... 172x :). Sorry, I won't be able to compare 710t and 172x standing side-by-side :(. They also bought me some other components different than I asked for, but that's another story...
