Hi,
I use FileZ and FileProg a reasonable amount to manage files and
directories on my cards, but neither seems to have the ability to
eradicate an entire directory tree at once. Do any of ya'll know of a
Palm OS utility that will do this? TIA!

May or may not be appropriate for your use, but take a look at CardExport or
(preferably) CardExportII by Softtick (http://www.softick.com/). Install
the application and then run it after placing your PDA in its cradle. An
Explorer window pops up on your Windows desktop from which you can access
the card the same way you would any other "drive" within Windows. Move
files, add, copy, delete files and folders, etc.

Now, get your stuff back for less - buy StuffBak security / recovery labels
& tags at http://www.infosystemspro.com/pdaparts.htm and save!

Thank you for the suggestion. I utilize a JumpDrive Trio when I am
near a PC, which has much higher throughput than CardExport, so when a
PC is around tree removal isn't that big of a deal.
What I am mainly looking for is a manner in which I can do this from
Palm OS. I sometimes load my cards down with trees, and when I am out
taking pictures with my camera that uses the same cards, find that I
need to remove those trees. These trees have a great number of
branches, so deleting them one at a time is a major PITA. I can't
reformat the card in the fields as there is usually other content on
the card that I don't want to remove.
I was just curious if something like this existed, as it would be nice
to carve through the forest without having to have a PC around. :-D

Ah, trees... sounds like you're looking for a DOS emulator for Palm OS, aka
"Deltree".... Ah, the good ol' days!

Yeah, something like that. On one of my 512mb cards I tote around a
compiler, which is about 60mb and has a lot of subdirectories, and
from time to time I tote around other rather large trees (usually
mirrors of web sites or my entire development tree) with lots of
branches. Handy, as I can walk up to any USB equipped machine, stuff
the JumpDrive Trio into an open port, and start compiling. If I need
the card's space for my camera, I can delete the tree when I'm near a
PC, and recover it later from a 40gb miniHD I also tote around. But if
I'm not near a PC, and I decide to go picture-happy, I'm out of luck
as taking those pesky trees out is a major PITA on the Palm.

If you find something, let us know. I use my cards pretty much the same way
you do. I also download stuff at work to a card to carry home, and sometimes
I like to put music on a card, which takes tons of room, even more than
pictures. It's easy enough to delete stuff from a PC, but not from the Palm
itself.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for it; as I recall, FileZ or FileProg
is open source. It might be worth pulling the code down and adding the
functionallity, or contacting the author(s) to see if it can be added.
I much prefer FileProg's ability to navigate through trees, so that
would be the one I would prefer be modified.
I store music on my cards too, and as I rip at 320kbps, my MP3s get
*huge*. :-D

I have FileZ on my card, but I never use it. FileProg is so much better for
everything, I've abandoned FileZ completely. I just haven't gotten around to
deleting it.

FileZ does a better job filtering, IMO, than FileProg does, although I
spend more time managing files on the card than I do in internal
memory...
