Descriptive notation oddity

I have Chessmaster 9000 and have been playing in figurine notation all
this time. Just for the heck of it I decided to switch to descriptive
notation. But instead of K and Q for king and queen, I'm getting R and
D, ie, P-K4 instead reads P-R4. When I move the Rook's pawn to K4 it
also reads P-R4. Anyone have any idea what I'm seeing here? I thought
maybe I had a foreign language version of the program, but the analysis,
moves, etc., all speak in English.

It could be French.

roi (R) = king
reine/dame (D) = queen
tour (T) = rook
cavalier (C) = knight
fou (F) = bishop
pion = pawn

But why it would be French eludes me.

Sounds like French (or perhaps Spanish) descriptive notation. No
language configuration anywhere?

You must have the French version, which is the only non-English version
of CM9000 that was ever made.

This version did translate all of the text, but did NOT translate all
of the audio, as you have seen. The only audio that was translated were
the Josh Waitzkin annotated games.
