Is there any software that will take the entire contact of an existing
memory stick back it up to hard disk and restore it to a new memory stick
via hot sync? Such that when I place the new memory stick into my Clie it
will have no cause for complaint given all of the software, books, photos,
dictionaries etc., it expects to find on the existing memory stick. I've
spend hours and hours on setup and activation -- time I do not wish to
loose. I'm upgrading from an 128MB memory stick to a 512MB memory stick pro.
Thanks for you help.

Cheers,
Mike H.

Go out and buy a cheap card reader. Copy it all to your hard drive manually
then back to the new stick.

The Lexar JumpDrive Trio works for me, but it doesn't do memory stick.
You'll have to get a more expensive reader to use a memory stick. But a card
reader is the way to go.

I'm also trying to copy my entire 128mb sd card to a 256mb and having
trouble. I copied the card to my desktop, then sent it to my card reader.
None of my icons showed up on the card. What am I doing wrong?

So I take it that the wise have already determined that a software approach
is a lost cause. Any specific hardware recommendations? It might only get
used once.

Cheers,
Mike H.

Uh, my JumpDrive Trio states that it handles MMC, SD, and MS. In fact,
if it wasn't for handling MSs, the JDT could be a little shorter.

JumpDrive Trio. $20 at Wally World, maybe cheaper elsewhere. Verify
before purchase that it supports the memory stick, but as memory
serves (sorry) I believe it does. I know it's longer than the MMC/SD
cards I have, and I think the MMC/SD/MS cards all share similar
contact arrangements.

Top posting, for one thing.

The icons didn't show up where? Why copy to your desktop? Just put one card
in the reader, and select copy, just as you would with a floppy. Insert the
new card when prompted, and you'll get the exact same directory structure as
on the old card.

OK. I don't use MS, so I never even checked on that. It is at least twice
as long as necessary for SD cards.

You need a card reader in any case, for backups, etc. But if you want a
software solution for one-time use, try PFB. Google will find it for you.
The web page is in German, but you can just click on the download button. It
comes with an English version. It has a Windows app and a Palm app, and you
run both simultaneously with the Palm in the cradle, and you can easily
transfer files between the PC, the Palm, and the card. Works like
CardExport, AFAIK, and it's free. I use it now and then for transferring
stuff, but mostly I use my JumpDrive Trio, because it's faster and easier.
PFB is orders of magnitude faster than hotsyncing for putting files on the
Palm, and about the same speed as a card reader for transferring files to and
from the card.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all of your help. I've ordered a memory stick reader from buy.com
for US$9.95 with free shipping and am still waiting for it to arrive. This
is what I ended up doing however.

The Clie TH55 comes with a utility called "Data Import". It basically turns
the Clie into USB drive. 1. Connect the Clie to the PC
2. Run the Data Import utility, select all of the memory sticks' directories
and files and copied them to a directory on the server.
3. Manually compared all files and directories on the stick to the copy.
4. Installed the new 512MB Memory Stick Pro.
5. Ran the Data Import utility again and copied the files and directories to
the new memory stick in mass.

The whole process took maybe 15 minutes with no hitches or surprises. So far
the new memory stick works like a charm. There appears to be no
configuration management issues.

Cheers,
Mike H.
