Hi,

I want to convert a midi file to several wav files - one for each instrument
so I can then load them into an AW16G, use them as guide tracks and
evetually replace them with live instruments one at a time.

I have Edirol Sound Canvas which does a good job of converting but does the
whole midi file to one wav file. Does anyone know of software that will
split the midi and generate multiple wav files in one go?

I know I can turn each track on and off individually and manually save
diferent wav files, but I need to do this quite a lot and would like to save
time.

TIA

Tony

Edirol Soundcanvas can do it but it is time consuming. Just mute evry track
that you don't want to converted then export to audio. As I said, if you
have 16 tracks then you have to do it 16 times., muting, unmuting etc. But
hey, still does the job though.
Cheers

There are audio/midi sequencing packages that can do what you're
looking for.
If you are using SONAR for example, just assign each track to a
different virtual synthesizer and then go to:
file >> export >> audio
and in the "bounce settings" dropdown-list choose: "Raw tracks"

Good luck,

Is there something similar in ProTools?

I'm afraid I don't know that, but I would be extremely surprised if any
pro platform (like ProTools) didn't have this feature.
There are many experienced PT users in this forum, I'm quite positive
that someone will let you know.

I'd been keen to know if someone knows a quick way of doing this in
cubase SX!

I stopped using cubase 4 years ago but I have read about the new
instrument FREEZE function...
Surely, all of the VSTis are rendered to audio somewhere in order to
free-up CPU load when you run the Freeze feature.
Check the project folder maybe?
Of course this doesn't mean that SX doesn't have an 'export to
individual files feature'. I just don't know if it does...

Hope this helps.
