Hi,
I bought Compaq with AMD K-2 450Mhz and 64 Mb of RAM last year and now
I tried to upgrade to Windows ME. I re-partitioned and reformatted my hard drive.
But when the installation starts (I booted from the CDrom),
it returns the same general protection fault error: "something wrong with SUwin.exe and GDI."
I tried to install Win95 osr2, win98, with the same result.
I copied installation to hard drive to exclude CDrom as a cause of my problems and ran installation from hard drive -- the same result.
Is it Compaq specific problem or AMD? or some of my components are just broken? Please help.

Try booting from a floppy with cdrom drivers on it and install that way... might work for you... thats how I do OEM installs and from a ghost program.
