Can i use windows recovery environment to copy files to an external drive

Hello,
can I copy data from my C: to an external drive in Windows 7 recovery environment using the command prompt.

IDK for sure, but probably not. It might be easier to download a live Linux distro that has NTFS support (xPud, Tinycore, and a few others come to mind as such distros), burn it to a CD or install it to the external drive, and then use it to copy the files.
