How do i know if i can copy a dvd?

my buddy is trying to copy movies. i tried helping him with nero 6, dvdxcopy and something else, i forget. anyway, the burner definately works, i tested it. when we try to copy something like the matrix, we get an error saying invalid data type. is that copy protection? is there a way around that?

You need something like cladDVD to copy dvd digitally. Yes there is a copy protection its called CSS.
