After reading thru many pages of posts and unsuccessfully searching for an answer, I decided to post what i'm sure is a rather simple question, my apologies for the inconvenience.

I just purchased a new ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard and a processor to go with it, unfortunately at the moment I cannot afford new RAM to go along with it. I currently have a half gig of PC133 RAM, will there be any issues using this in the new motherboard? I've seen several posts asking if faster RAM than is supported on a motherboard will work on an old motherboard, but nothing in regards to slower RAM on a new motherboard.

Thanks for your time. :)

It won't fit. Even if it could fit, the pins wouldn't line up,and you'd fry everything. It's not the speed, it's the fact that PC133 is Single Data Rate SDRAM, while the board only takes Double Data Rate SDRAM.

PC2100 is DDR memory that operates at the PC133 clockrate but would have actually fit your motherboard (although you'll want something faster since you have to buy new anyway). So it's not a speed issue, it's just slightly different technology.

Guess it's time to research some new RAM and hope that time til next payday goes quickly... Thanks for your quick reply. :)

Depending on your CPU you'll probably want at least PC2700 and possibly PC3200.

I had to skimp on the processor as i'm very broke right now, buying the new MB/processor maxed out my credit card, only an Athlon 2000+ XP processor in there. When it comes time to buy the RAM though, it's only a two dollar price difference on a half gig of PC-2700 DDR vs PC-3200 DDR, so I might as well go with the latter.
