i have three (3) 500gb drives that i'd like to create a raid-5 set for. i'm not using a raid controller, i want to have windows create the set for me, but when i try to create the set in drive manager, the 'create raid 5 volume' is greyed out. drive manager sees all 3 drives, and will let me create a striped set w/ all 3, but i can't seem to create the raid 5 set.

i also tried through diskpart, and got the message that it wasn;t available w/ my version of windows (windows 7 ultimate - 64 bit).

any thoughts or hints would be appreciated.

maybe the fact that you do not have raid support on the motherboard is the problem, when you post problems you should give all pertinent infomation, it helps
