External FireWire VS. USB 2.0 hard drive?

I am looking at buying an external hard drive for my computer. I am looking at a FireWire hard drive and a USB 2.0 hard drive.

1. Which format is quicker?
2. Any pros/cons of either?

Thanks!

More about external firewire hard drive
  1. 1. They are roughly the same speed
    2. Firewire controllers usually have a bit less CPU overhead, USB 2.0 is compatable with more systems.

  2. Thanks.
  3. Another vote for firewire...love my WD 80GB. Tried my friends USB 2.0 and noticed slower transfer speeds as well as pretty bad access times...I may have had a potential USB 2.0 driver problem, however.
