okay i just upgraded my computer from a gigabyte ga-7dxr, 1gig tbird and nameless ram with 2 ibm 40 gig deskstars. i upgraded to an asus a7n8x deluxe with a athlon 2500 +xp barton core, and a set of corsair TWINX512-3200C2PT memory. one of my drives went bad so i order a seagate baraucuda 40 gig as well. when i went to boot up it goes fine until it goes to the screen in xp when windows was shut down improperly, no problem select start windows normaly, it then goes past the xp screen and before the log in screen comes up it reboots and ends up back at the windows was shut down improperly screen.

i have more questions about my hard drive and windows xp than anything else. i have put my harddrives thru a lot, a virus caused me to loose all data and reload windows. at one point both of my drives were wiped clean when one was unpluged while power was on. i have upgraded and i am not able to boot all the way up

question is do i need to start with a clean hard drive and install a clean version of win xp when i upgrade mobo, ram and cpu? thanx in advance. any help on what may be problem most appreciated

Splendid
Clean install is what you need. Any time you change a motherboard you need to do a clean install unless your installing the exact same one. New chipsets - new drivers, windows cant handle very well.
