I upgraded from the 100 to the Triangle Titus.
Bass response of the 100 is better. However, the Titus is better in all
other areas. Treble extension, midrange clarity, speed, transient response,
detail, imaging soundstaging- it really isn't a fair comparison.
Another factor to consider is releative sensitivity- the 100 are notoriously
insensitvie and that will have an impact on the sound with moderately
powered amplifiiers. I use vintage tube amps. Part of the differences I
hear may be due to a better amp speaker interface. The crossover of the
Titus is very simple- the crossover of the 100 is more complex.
The 100 is a nice sounding speaker and *was* Stereophile rated in the early
90's. But compared to current speakers at the same pricepoint, may not be
the best of choices.
That said, if you are seeing a deal on a used pair, buy them if the price is
right.
Best,
Ross
