I'm looking to buy 2Gb of 3200 ddr for my new computer. Before you ask, I will use all of it - I do lots of CAD work and have to have my swapfile set at 1.5Gb already (with 512mb in my current comp.) so given that my CAD projects are only going to get bigger, I feel the need for more and more computing ability.

I would like to use the P4P800 deluxe motherboard as it's good value and has the features I need (raid 0+1 is most important). Asus say that: "Double sided DIMMs with X16 (databus width = 16 bit) are not supported due to a chipset limitation." I don't need to understand why, but I do need to understand what the X16 looks like in a DIMM manufacturer's spec sheet. I have found some samsung modules that are described as 64X64 - is this X16? I need to use certain memory as not all memory (inc. corsair) is supported when used in dual channel layout with 2 pairs of dimms. Seller link is: http://www.ebuyer.com (uk site) and quickfind 52561.

Aaargh. Just as I thought I had it all sorted!

Hopefully:
P4 2.8GHz C HT
ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
2Gb (4x512, dual channel) 3200 DDR
4x WD Caviar 80Gb 7200rpm 8Mb cache disks in RAID 0+1
ATI FireGL X1 (driver-forced from my current 9500pro - it works!)
etc...

Cheers, Peter

ASUS says alot of mumbo jumbo. what they dont say is that 865PE (like your P4P800) dont like running 2 gig of ram. it might work but to stay on the safe side id find a brand which are garenteed to work with that amount of ram. something like an abit is7 should do the trick.

also dont buy a 2.8, a 2.6 is cheaper and can be overclocked in 10 seconds up to a 3.0ghz without changeing anything (heat, stability and so on)
