Its a pretty good read if your interested in learning about the card.

According to this guy its the best thing going. I have to completely agree with his cpu usage idea, if your system is slower because of sound processing to the point of not being playable you need a new system!

Actually it's great if you're only gonna use it for music and stuff, but if you play games a lot then he recommends the audigy 2. Plus the Audigy 2 ZS is cheaper then the M-Audio card. I guess at the time of the review the ZS wasn't out yet.

.. not true. Quote from what he said about the Audigy2 below-
<b><i>"For people with a lower end system concerned with minimal CPU usage I guess look to an Audigy 2,If you are a gamer demanding the best gaming card consider an Audigy 2</b></i>

He also says

Quote :

it has better music support and excellent gaming support even when compared to an Audigy 2 in my opinion

I think the best praise could be this

Currently the card is sitting my main system playing the music to get me through these articles! When a reviewer insists on using a piece of hardware in their own system, when they have access to many other products it definitely shows the quality of the hardware in question. Really people, hearing the M-Audio Revolution is hearing a thing of beauty.

As far as sound quality, the Maudio has no equal. But it does very well in games too. It does lack hardware support, so I think thats why hes saying get an Audigy 2 if all you do is game, otherwise I think he'd say forget the audigy.
Sounds like to me that the MAudio is the way to go. I could use better sounds quality and forgo a few extra FPS or EAX3.0 (which I have right now and its nothing impressive to say the least).

First of all, the Audigy 2 ZS has better signal-to-noise ratio than the revo. Second, very few people are going to notice the difference in sound quality between the two when playing music. The Audigy2 ZS a more flexible card and sounds incredible with mp3's, CD's, and DVD-Audio. The Audigy2 ZS is $83 while the revo is $90, that's like the icing on the cake.

I'd be interested in a review of the ZS actually but havent been able to find any.
The SNR is in the same range as the revo but doesnt say much about the many other factors that need testing.

You're not going to believe this kinney, my birthday present from my wife is an Audigy 2 Platinum Edition Soundcard, talk about eating my own words of not getting another Creative card, was that an Audigy 2 that you've been having problems with, or an Audigy 1 I'm trying to decide whether to keep it or get something else?

I thought we had a nice little anti-Creative pact going here??

Mines an Audigy 1. Why didnt you go with the Audigy 2ZS?

I hope someday I can get away with buying my wife a soundcard for me to tinker with for a birthday present!
Does she seriously enjoy those gifts?
I think once I meet that woman I will be married.. lol.

I've considered the ZS but I have this thing going on where I refuse to give them any more of my money until this card works right all the time.
This isnt going to happen though.

I'm surprised you didnt try a revo being anti creative.
If it sounds good and works fine keep it. I dont have a problem with Creative if they stamp out their problems but I personally wont upgrade just to get a functional card.

If you want to try something else, a reviewer I know personally told me that the Revolution is the best card unless your in love with EAX3 (which I am not). He said that there is absolutely no fuzz with the revolution and it does great in games contrary to what some people are saying.
Its not like its clean sound doesnt translate over to games and everything else.

Well so far I'm completely blown away by this Audigy 2, the Audio is fantastic, and the Gaming is unbelievable, I'd forgotten how good fully supported EAX can be, I hope it continues and doesn't start the crackling and popping that other Creative cards I own have done. So far I give this card about a 30% increase over the TBSC, but time will tell with the Creative cards.

Hmmm. You should try the ZS drivers and see if things improve.
Audigy2 users are reporting better results with those.

I have spoken to one Audigy 2 user that had crackling/popping come into his sound and had to reinstall his drivers... he didnt listen to me when I said I had the same problem with my audigy 1 and it will come back!
It couldve been an isolated incident but you never know.

Very good point!

So I took the Audigy 2 back to the store and swapped it for the Audigy 2 ZS.

I'm dual booting WinXP Pro and Win98SE.

Win98SE gave me some trouble, but not from the soundcard, from another program I had on the machine that I had to uninstall, and it didn't uninstall properly, so I had to completely reload Win98SE to get it functioning again.

So far the A2ZS has really been impressive, music wise its really solid, and gaming wise its really amplifying the scare level of AvP2 to heart pounding levels.

I looked for reviews but couldn't find any on the ZS, but I do know the Audigy 2, only supported up to 6.1 surround speakers, and the ZS supports up to 7.1 surround speakers and comes with an equalizer, which the Audigy 2 did not, so far no regrets.

Yeah the ZS has better DACs than the regular audigy2. They are about equal with the revolutions.
