Acer 20X10X40

i have an Acer 20x10x40 drive, XP, a Tbird 1.4, Abit KT7A-R, 160 GB WD drive.

my cd-rw drive isn't recognized by XP anymore. when i burn something with nero, nero goes through everything like it has burned a disk, but pops out a blank disk. also, when nero says it is writing at a certain speed, the writing to disk light isn't on. i can still put cd's in and get them out fine, but i dunno what the problem is.

i tried scanning for hardware changes, going into the cmos, unplugging it...nothing has worked. can anyone help me? i am pretty sure i need a new drive, but any help would be very appreciated. :)

  1. maybe its time to uprade to a better burner, since they are dirt cheap these days.
i had the exact burner, and let me tell ya, they are one of the worst 20x burners ever made. i had a lot of problem with it, such as VERY long lead in/out time, it wont burn VCDs properly, it wont read some disc properly. Eventually, it died, windows can no longer find it. So i replaced it with a Liteon 52x32x52, and they are really fast.
So maybe you should consider doing the same, it'll save you a lot of time and energy.
  2. yeah, get a new CD-RW

    LiteOn is highly recommended
