I have a large, open garage (37' by 48' by 14' high) in which are mounted a
pair of older (and large) JBL speakers. The sound is surprisingly good and
live sounding - probably because of the large, open area.
Anyway, I would like to add some stand alone tweeters - probably horn types
and power them from a separate, dedicated amplifier so I can adjust their
volume independent of the JBL amp.
I thought I could take the signal from the line out (tape out) on the JBL
amp and feed it into the added tweeter amp. I realize I should use a
crossover capacitor to pass only the higher freqs but have no idea what
value to use. I recall that the capacitors used in speaker cabinets are
designed around the approximately 8 ohm impedance typical of speakers and
are usually in the 10-20 microfarad range. Any suggestions on a capacitor
value when installing it in the input line to an amplifier? I suspect the
input impedance is 50k ohm or higher. (pure guess).
I hope this question makes sense and TIA for any suggestions.
