Changing HD's

I am looking to upgrade my HD, and it is from an HP machine. I don't think I have the software that came with the machine, so to install windows on my new hd can I just use a friends winXP installer, but use the product key on the little sticker on my HP case?

Probably, but you'll probably need a plain XP OEM CD (as in, the OEM version of XP included with most computers from smaller companies).
