I have 2x256 PC 3200 modules of different brands. When I put them in single channel mode the memory bus speed is 400MHz as it should be. When I put them in dual channel mode the memory bus speed drops at 333MHz (no problem enabling the dual channel mode though). I've tried increasing the memory voltage and messed with the timmings but as I'm not really experienced with it, I didn't manage anything.
Any suggestions will be really appreciated.

MB: MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R
CPU: P4 2.8 800MHz PSB
1st DIMM:Elixir PC 3200
2nd DIMM:Nanya PC 3200

Hey wusy, going out of the topic, you had posted elsewhere a link to the voltage mod for the chipset on ur Epox board. Could you tell me if i could do that on my A7N8X Dlx board too?

Yes but I know that the problem with using two different brands of RAM, is stability and to actually enable the dual channel mode (most people get BSODs and lock-ups). I don't have any problem with enabling the dual channe mode or any stability issues, but just with the speed dropping. Isn't there anything I can do (besides getting new RAM :)?

What the Wusy man said. They will only operate at the speed of the weakest link(dimm of memory). If you jumped up the v dimm voltage and the still dont work at speed you are wanting then they wont. You could increase the timings(loosen up)but then you would loose some preformance. If possable get two matching sticks.

is cpu overclocked?
i know this board if you increase fsb its automaticly increases dram speed.
maybe it fixed new bios
i have this problem with two corsair xms pc3200 c2 (on this board)

But the speed of the weakest link is...400MHz!! They are both DDR PC3200 with exctly the same timings (2.5-3-3-7). I've tried increasing the timings at their slowest values (3-4-4-4) and icreased the voltage at 2.9(!) but still nothing. I dunno. Maye it's some Bios thing since igor has the same problem with two Corsair xms pc3200 c2 on the same M/B.

Igor -> I know the DDR speed increases when you increase the FSB speed but the problem is that the meaning of dual channel is to have the same bandwidth at the memory and the CPU. So if you have an FSB of 4x240=960MHz while your memory is at 2x400=800 doesn't make much sense

You said you had 2 3200 sticks, but different brands.I have had a lot of sticks that will not run at there rated speed, especially off brands. The idea of the duel slots is that two of the same kind and same speed sticks work togeather. In your case i dont think thats happening.Example,i just ordered 2 sticks that have hynix chips(OCZ memory).I have 2 good sticks of hyper xthat have winbound chips in them. The hyper x did not work good in my board,my board seems to like the hynix chips(by reviews). You could have completely different constucted sticks of memory.Being that they dont work togeatther i would at least say its possable. What if you would run them at whatever setting they will run till you could get a matching set.Manufacturers say to get a kit with both sticks being matched and guaranteed at the factory.Good luck

In the rules of dual channel, the chips MUST be identical for different companies communicate differenty enough to mess it up. The more identical the pair is, the more you can get out of them... Timmings is usually a mobo/ram issue most of the time.
