Problem with receiving messege using at command

hi....
i can successfully send message by at command using cmgs command.....
but stuck at receiving part...
AT
OK
AT+CMGF=1
OK
AT+CPIN?
+CPIN: READY
OK
AT+CPMS?
+CPMS: ,,,,,,,,
OK
AT+CPMS=?
+CPMS: (),(),()
OK
ALL OTHER RECEIVE COMMAND GIVES ERROR.........
I AM STUCK AT THIS POINT I CAN'T ACCESS ANY MESSAGE FROM MEMORY CARD OR PHONE MEMORY OR SIM CARD.....
PLZ HELP....
