This is probably a stupid question, but I've got the Holy Sword on Siege,
and it currently says '187 uses remaining'. Is this thing going to wear out
in the middle of battle?
If it is, what's the point in blessing the stupid thing? I'm guessing that
it started at 200 uses? That's not a lot of fights, for something that's
supposed to be 'special'! Or is this one of those 'unique to Siege' rules?
If it is, the sword's going to become item #1 in my brand new, very small,
rares collection, and never see battle again!

It sounds like it may be bugged. I haven't chosen that particular
prize but don't they normally have a really high self repair property
(like 10) so that they don't ever need repairs? It definitely
shouldn't have a maximum number of uses though.

If the number keeps dropping I'd call a GM to take a look at it.

Great. :( *goes fishing for velvet pillows*

So, if I'd gone for the hearth, I'd probably find it vanishing after my
200th smithing attempt? That utterly stinks.

BTW, Siege isn't deserted - everyone seems to be running round Paragon
hunting at the moment, which is why the towns in Fel seem deserted. I played
for 3 hours yesterday, and met 12 people in the lost lands, another 10 just
beyond the Valor moongate, and another 15-20 in Umbra. Just before I logged
out, there were another 10 or so hanging around the 'glow bank, too - so
it's far from deserted - the popular hang-outs just differ from 'normal'
shards, and there are no bank-sitters, for which I am extremely grateful!

But that wearing-out gift thing really stinks. I think I'll call a GM and
ask them the next time I've got a couple of hours to spend in-game!

Sword Update:
I asked a GM about this, and he said it looked like a bug. He took the sword
for a minute, and then gave it (or a copy) back - but it doesn't seem to be
losing points any more!

Population Update:
I went to Destard last night - there were at least 40 players (and a dozen
white wyrms and one chicken(?!?)) running around there - the lag was so bad
with that many people on-screen, I gave up and logged out.
So Siege isn't a ghost town - the players have gone underground! :)

Aha! That might make sense - a friend of mine had just started as a tailor,
and I did shear a few sheep to show him how to do it and get him started -
that would account for some of the losses - assuming it did start at 200.
Funny that the GM didn't consider that possibility... :)

Not "funny" at all. Most of the GM's know less about the game than most
of the newbies just starting to play. Customer support has NEVER been
good in UO. They really had to work at it to get worse, but they succeeded.

You know. If indeed that is the case as you have stated. Then wouldn't the
new one you said you got -----> "Sword Update: I asked a GM about this, and

it (or a copy) back - but it doesn't seem to be losing points any more!"
<----- Wouldn't your seord now be considered a EXTREAME rare now? Just a
thought.

Agrees. Many hours on the phone with them is not a day at the park.

I'm not sure. It doesn't have the 'uses remaining' thing on it any more (and
I just tried shearing another sheep to test it!), so, if all the other ones
on Siege DO work in the same way as my original one, then I suppose it
probably is one of a kind - or at least extremely rare.

There certainly isn't any decent sharing of knowledge - I've met GM's who
seemed to know the game inside out in the past, but I've also seen plenty of
idiots!

In all fairness, we did offer the sheep a nice replacement shirt, but he
wasn't interested. Bleated something about a sheep in cheap clothing and
left...
See what happens when you drink and RP? :)
