Power hour question

Does the power hour apply to each character or to the account? It seems that
the first character that logs on will achieve faster gains than other
characters.

There is no more power hour. That was done away with some time back. It
used to be that for the first hour each char was logged in each day they
would get easier skill gains, even on failures. Now there is still the
GGS that is supposed to make your chars gain skills if they work at them
for a given period of time. It's all "per character" not per account.

It is not enough that the game is so complex and hard to learn. Having old
information than does not apply any more makes it even harder to learn. When
I read something, I expect it to apply. It should be removed/revised.

Thanks for the info

Wait... I need to work parry above 85 and I know where Cyclopses spawn -
and you're telling me they aren't good for gains? Or were you implying that
they don't spawn? I'm off to try them...

You want nostalgia? Try looking at your screenshots of the pre-alpha.
Remember when backpacks were actually on our backs? Hehe. Good times.

Well, if you just want to power game parry, I can tell you how to do that.
It might be more satisfying to build it slowly though. I always found
regular ogres and stone harpies to be good for gaining parry.

Yeah, I kinda do just want to power-game parry. I haven't gotten around to
trying the cyclopses yet, GGS was slow for my lockpick gain. (96.6) I'm
out of patience with the taming (37.1) and magery (61.2), and it'd be really
satisfying to see another few points of parry.

Did you see that ROT13 paragraph I wrote? You should be able to highlight
that and find an option in OE somewhere to unscramble it. I don't have OE
installed anywhere or I would tell you how exactly.

From MS Outlook Express for those whom care but don't want to look:

To unscramble a newsgroup message

You cannot scramble messages and post them in Outlook Express, but if
someone has posted a scrambled message to a newsgroup (using ROT13), you can
unscramble it in Outlook Express and make it readable.

1.. In the newsgroups message list, double-click a message to open it.
2.. On the Message menu, click Unscramble (ROT13).
Note

a.. The ROT13 method of scrambling involves replacing each letter with one
that appears 13 characters later in the alphabet. Though this is not secure
the way encrypting is, it can be useful for sensitive or offensive
information.

So, since we haven't decoded the secret message, I went to fight some
cyclopses. I had a nice land-based 2 full point healing gain. It's tough
to damage yourself in Trammel. If only Ilsh had Fel rules, I could have
died to my own pet beetle. Yeah, um. There was this really useful mongbat
that came along, until I accidentally wrestled him to death. I did get
about 0.5 parry gains, but then the cyclopse died, and I was on that lovely
healing run. So, I went back to the cyclopse camp and there are people
there, now, farming paragons.
So, I'll try again tomorrow.

Having finally cared enough to decode - yup. I had already figured out it
was the weapon that was slowing me down. My half point of gain came when I
disarmed. On the plus side - I got to fight a cyclopean warrior paragon
(solo) and got a chest off him. Yay. Add to collection with Wyvern, Fire
Elemental, Troll and several Mongbats.

The rule of thumb I use is that if it's on the *left* menu, it's
probably up-to-date, if it's on the *right* it's probably out-of-date.
It's not ironclad, but it's the way to bet.

Oh well, I figured it would decode okay. Here's what I posted earlier,

Get some shields (bucklers are best I think) or two handed weapons. Don't
equip a weapon you have skill with or don't go barehanded if you have
wrestling skill. Go to Jhelom and down into the fighting pit. Don't
bother to pay for opponents to battle because some ass will just come down
there and bladespirit them all anyhow. What you do is stand a bit away
from the one you will attack, then attack one and toggle out of war mode
as soon as you can. Leu said he was lowering the toggle delay so this
should be easier now but there was a 5 second delay before. Anyhow you
want to target only unarmed females. They do no damage to you at all so
you will not need to heal. Your shields or two-handed weapon will take
damage however. Try to get all the females attacking you. If you don't
care about karma you can just kill the other npcs. As new npcs spawn some
will be unarmed females you can gather. Keep killing the rest.
Eventually you will have 20-30 females attacking you and your parry will
rise quickly. If parry gets stuck try switching to a weapon or a
different shield for a bit. You can GM parry in 2-4 hours this way.

They're fine(though 8 sheep and a dog are better. hehe), just not a new enemy
as the Parry essay on stratics states/used to state.

Sorry if my currently clumsy wording confused anyone. :}
~Cyrus~

(Though if you want to GM parry without all the guesswork, or you're re-GMing
it after letting it for whatever bizarre reason of your own, grab at least 4
Shadow iron shields-for durability-and 8 sheep & a dog/bird/cow and a weapon
you have 0 skill in, and let 'em beat on you while you sit there. I re-GM'd in
about 5-6 hours after dropping parrying for archery very briefly...Parry makes
faster checks when more things are fighting you, not just when more powerful
enemies are smacking you about)

Ah, I had missed the word *new.* That was my reading comprehension problem
for the day. Thanks. I've been trying to get large numbers of monsters to
smack me around, but I haven't got the hang of it yet. I'll have to try
with different shields. Maybe the one I've got is TOO good. I think it was
s'thing like 15% defense chance increase. Might have something to do with
it.

The last three chars I've made took less than one load of 20 bucklers each
to GM parry. Lately I've been GMing parry before working on my combat
skill because, well, who wants to take all that damage if you don't have
to?
