Giant Beetle Training

My fighter character, Nicolyn, has had a Giant Beetle for some time now....
usually I use the beetle to help haul my loot out of the dungeons.

What suggestions do you have for training my beetle to help me out in
battles. I do not have a Tamer or Bard character.

I do have GM status in Healing. Can I heal my beetle if it gets hurt, I
don't think I can, I believe you have to have the Vet skill or some combo of
skills.

Thanks
Paul

Pick something with about the same combat skill as your beetle to
train it against. It will gain more rapidly if the opponent is within
10 skill or so if its own.

You need Vet to heal animals. Animal Lore increases the amount of
damage you can heal with each bandage. You can use magic but you run
out of mana a little quickly doing this. Peacemaking is a great side
skill for training war-pets because if your pet starts getting hit too
hard you can Peace the opponent. Your pet still gets skill checks
every time it hits but it doesn't get hit back until the daze wears
off.

You really need to xfer him to a tamer where you can lore and vet him.

That being said, a newbie tamer, created for this purpose, with 50
lore and 50 magery (to recall) should answer to that purpose nicely.

If you want to go that route, we can discuss detailed training
methods.

A few weeks ago I recalled to our mining shack for some mining.
I had just got off the bug to start mining when I spotted a Troll,
and giant serpent. (It spawns in that area about once a day).

About the same time, we had a lighting strike, and power failure
at our house. I was thinking by the time the power came back on
my miner/Smith and bug would be dead, but got back on to find
the bug had killed the Troll and the giant serpent, and my character
and bug was still alive.

I had spent some time training the bug with Polar Bear on Ice Island.
I have no idea what its skill level is now, because my Miner/Smith
has no animal lore ability.

I think that's good for one little bug.

You can also use spells to heal pets.
