Has anybody used a DAC with a Rega Planet Series 1 CD player and if so what
are their thoughts?

Yes. The latest Planet is an excellent player and a significant
upgrade. It also comes with a new transport and a warranty, so that is
my recommendation. If you want to use a newer DAC, say in an AV
preamp, then you can and with good results, however you will be
relying on an old transport which will eventually develop problems.
