Hey all, i've got hold of a large bunch of 512MB 184pin dimm pc3200 Crucial Ram. I'm concerned that potential buyers will be unaware of the compatibility issues of this spec ram and don't want to pass it on without being 100% it will work in their system. Is there a website that lists motherboards with their ram limits?

The only other option is look up each motherboard from the manufacturers site and respond to each. Need help!!

I'm an expert, and I don't know of any motherboards that support PC3200 without supporting 512MB modules.

Crashman, thanks for your reply. That makes me feel a little better, could still do with a site that lists motherboards and whether they take 512 modules, any ideas?

You could go to Corsair's site and root around.

Crucial ram pretty much works in any machine that would have 184 pin config. The only thing that could cross compatibility with wether thier mobo will support single or twinbank ram and how many banks they have to play. Another would be the max ram size they could plug in. Also be sure that you check the ram with memtest86 at their stock timmings. More importantly DO NOT GUARANTEE OVERCLOCK CAPABILITIES!!

You can also get their mobo name and look them up on the manufactuer site to check what type of ram it takes.

For example if you go to ASUS and look up a few of the higher end motherboards you will find that they support a max type of ram @ PC3200 in 512MB sticks.
But it has to be un buffered memory. The newest boards support dual channel memory like the new gamers Corsair stuff. Kingston Ram will run matched 512MB sticks as well even if the motherboard is not dual channel capable.
If you want to be sure the memory will run in a guys computer check to see if he has a 8X AGP buss if they do then the RAM will work.
If they only have 2 or 4X AGP Buss then you would want to sell them only 1 stick to be sure they don't hear a beep beep beep beep beep beep beep thingy when they try to boot-up!!

All RAM is suspect it only takes a 5 volt ESD jolt to kill a memory stick and as humans we only feel an electrostatic discharge at 5000 volts. If this is the case you can fry a trace in one of the memory modules for the ram stick and never even know you did it. ESD discharge is measured without amperage. 5000 volts without any amps is harmless to life but only 5 volts ESD to a computer chip is the headsman's AXE.
