I don't really have immediate use for the DVD burner but am going to get one any way. I will go with the all in combo model DVD burn-RW CDRW & CDR.
I read a few posts about the Plexor models and haven't any knowledge of them personally. I have a APEX high speed CDR plus a Samsung DVD RW. I figure it would be nice to have a drive that does it all, esp. for backup purposes in case one fails.
I was thinking of getting the Pioneer model. Are they any good?? What other brands are topnotch?
ok, first of all you should read thg review of 11 dvd burners. however, one of the biggest complaints about the review was that the pextor and lite-on were mia. they finally did a review of the plextor but the lite-on is still mia. you should also look at other web sites like anandtech.com or sharkyextreme.com for reiviews. sharky's also builds 3 machines each month <$1000, <$2500 & <$4000. they usually include a dvd burner in the top 2 budget ones. they also give a reason for thier choices, the same for other places that build thier annual 'dream machines'. computer shopper also reviews burners.
i'm also looking for a dvd burner and i've got it down to 2 models the plextor 708a($234@newegg) and the other is the pioneer A06 ($168@newegg). i know someone who has a pioneer A05 and to the best of my knowledge they don't have any problems w/it. (it's my nephew and lives in CA and i'm in NH).
finally remember some times drives are rated high but the software isn't. if this happens check out other software and thier web site and see if they support the drive you want and simply use the other. (fyi: i'm looking at nero ultra)
good luck and post what you finally do it could help others.
I have the Plextor 708a and haven't had any problems or made any coasters, got mine at new egg for 205 special sale, use the price quote and they'll email you when the price gets to your standard.
when all is said and done, what you've done for your neighbor is most important
I just ordered the 811s LiteON any of you guys have it? I hope this drive is good, my cousin says he's extemely happy with his 411s, so i got the 811s, you can't go wrong for that price on newegg!. 150$
Pioneer had the least issues with media compatibility. If you plan on only buying expensive discs such as TDK, Maxell or Sony, you really don't have to worry about this though. If you plan to use some "cheaper" discs such as Memorex, Lead Data or CompUSA(a vairety of manufactures make their discs), then probably getting a pioneer is better off.
well i been usuing the LiteON 811s just figure i post back and say that it ROCKS!!! super quiet, 84 dvd's burnt and not one coaster... Liteon 811s and Ritek Dvd-r 4X works awesome
