You could if the USB to Firewire converter works the way its described. I've done that with one of those converter kits that come with a 15' extended usb cable.

If you have no IEEE1394 ports on your motherboard then you need to buy a IEEE1394 add-on card to install into a PCI/PCI-e slot. I wouldn't suggest trying to find (I'm not even sure they exist) a USB to Firewire converter cable/box as it will likely cost as much or more than the add-on card.
