Hello,

I am going to be building a new AMD system and I have a question. On newegg.com the price of Corsair XMS 3200 at 256mb is almost the same as Corsair XMS 2700 at 512mb. The system is going to be dual channel, so it works out to be 512mb of 3200 or 1024mb of 2700. My question is: does doubling the amount of memory increase performance more than the increase in clock speed?

thanx,

I would go for the pc3200 if you have the money and plan to overclock...and the pc2700 if you are on a budget. That pc2700 will definitly run @ 200mhz (400mhz ddr) if you set it at cas 2.5 (may even run 200mhz w/ stock timmings). 1024mb of pc2700 will perform better than 512mb of pc3200.

BTW if you run stock memory speeds pc3200 and pc2700 ram of the same size will have the exact same performance.

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a procesor

What are you going to be doing? If you're loading large apps many at a time, then the 1 GB will definitely do you better.

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

PC3200 is more futureproof...
Get 1GB if your OS is 2000/XP (any Win 9X can only use up to 1/2Gig B4 problems)

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...
