My PC has 2000 with serious errors that I can't fix. Added XP install. How
can I migrate the software setting over? I don't suppose I can just import
the exported 2000 software hive.

try doing some research on windows xps "transfer files and settings" i think
this might work reply back how it works if you do it.

Well, that's the funny thing. I did choose "upgrade" but nothing is in the
XP install. Andy it's on the same hard drive. I assume it would be an
upgrade.
