Underclocking PC2700 on KG7-R?

Hi. I've got a KG7-R mobo with a single 512MB chip of PC2100 RAM. I recently purchased a PC2700 chip with the understanding that the RAM would underclock itself to ensure compatibility with the KG7, which only supports up to PC2100. However, upon putting the new RAM in alone and with the old chip, the computer does not boot. I have to reset the BIOS and put the old chip back in to make it work. Is this simply a specific compatbility problem, or will the motherboard not accept anything faster than 2100? Would a flash update fix this problem?

Thanks!

It should work, but it could be a BIOS issue. You can try flashing your BIOS to the latest revision.
