How is the quality of the DVD playback?

I was just wondering which would display a better picture and sound on a LCD, internal or external DVD players. I know external DVD players have RGB component ouput which displays the colors of the DVD as it was originaly recorder. But the internal DVD players offer the same quality or do they go through additional conversions before they are displayed on the LCD screen.

We have a 120 inch lcd projector and with the stand alone dvd player using the component output with progressive scan the picuter is ALMOST as good as useing the computer with the projector.... if your not comparing them side by side you cant see any difference, even when u do the computer is slightly crisper and better color
