Hi everyone. My Acer Aspire 1662WLMi laptop has a P4 Processor 3GHZ (478 Socket), FSB: 800MHz, Chipset: Ati IGP9100. As the CPU gets too hot, and its thermal behavior is awful, I would like to upgrade the Processor. Is it possible to replace it with a Pentium M 740 Processor (Socket 478), or would be a problem with the motherboard chipset (ATI IGP9100) :?:

Thanks

I don't believe it will work. The Netburst CPUs are entirely different in VRM than the Pentium M-class processors.

You can always try cleaning out the notebook and re-seating the HSF assembly with better thermal material, and perhaps one of those notebook cooling pads.

If you pay for the shipping I can overhaul it for you.

What do u mean (KillerNotebooks)? To kill my notebook :D. I have already cleared the fan, and applied new thermal paste. In fact, I have used the Arctic Silver 5. However, the starting CPU temp remains the same i.e. 74C. As a result, I am planning to change the CPU. The question is if I can use a Pentium M processor, instead of a Pentium 4, as the first has better thermal behavior. The socket is the same (478), however I don't know if I will have problem with the m/b chipset or the bios.
