Cannot locate minimized windows

Whenever I minimize any windows or programs, they do not appear as title bars
on the taskbar. Instead they disappear and I cannot locate these windows or
programs. I have to open Windows Task Manager in order to open these programs
or windows. How do I get the minimized programs and windows to stay on the
taskbar?

I'm using Win XP Pro with SP2. I have scanned my PC using Norton AV 2004 but
coudn't locate any problems.
