hello, i am one of the unfortunate who purchased an Acer Ferrari 3400 a couple of years ago, only to have the usual problems of overheating. i have read that the processor Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64 3000+ (40W) is a main contributor to the heat and constant fan cooling.

is there anyway i can upgrade this Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64 3000+ (40W) to a newer less heat emitting, power hungry processor, by a simple processor swap.

thanks

glen

Not really, that 3000+ is the highest of it's line (socket A 133mhz), I used on on a friends desktop because he was stuck a 133mhz.

Unfortunately that's pretty much the best you can get for that socket/fsb combo that I know of. If you post the MoBo model # (taken from something like Everest) then maybe it'll give us some insight into whether it can handle different cores, but IMO, nothing short of the second generation Turions will give you better heat management.

The 3000+ CPU is the fastest Mobile Athlon 64 that has Thermal Design Power < 40 watt. There are socket 754 Turion processors that may work in your laptop. I think the fastest Turions - ML40 and MT40 - are comparable to Mobile Athlon 64 3400+, but have much lower TDP:
