Problem Installing Java Runtime

Hi

I uninstalled my current Java runtime and try'd to download a the older 'V
1.2' because a game I play is suppose to be faster than the more current
versions.

I have try'd all the different options of downloading and always get the
'can not open file/ please choose a program to open file' screen etc'.

Any help please?
