CMX512-3200LL isn't compatible with Opteron and the current Athlon 64 FX therefore we can say that CMX512-3200LL was not used for the K8T Master motherboard. And the issue is registered vs. unbuffered rather than ECC vs. non-ECC. For systems built with Opteron and the current Athlon 64 FX registered memory modules are required.

An opteron/Athlon64 FX(940-pin) system will not boot up with unbuffered memory modules. If you would like to remain with Corsair, I would suggest TWINX1024RE-3200LL.

Thanks for clarifying that. Does that mean the memory I already have will still work with the regular Athlon 64? If not, will it work with Intel's 875 or 865 chipsets? Thanks again!

That's right. Your current memory will work with Athlon64 3000+, 3200+, 3400+, and any other AMD socket 754 processor. Will also work with Intel's 875 and 865 chipsets.

IIRC ECC=Buffered. The Buffer is the parity bit for ECC.
