Windows Server 2003 Std. ed. employed as a desktop. Very smooth.

Sure there's a choice: Apple OS, Linux, etc. etc.

But if you want Windows, then yes the choice is definitely XP.

Ever so slightly a pointless question.

Windows 2000 Professional goes out of mainstream support at the end of this
month (June 2005) and only support for those paying for extended support
will get that. - I would think preference is a moot point.
If you are planning on purchasing or deploying then you really have only one
choice today -- Windows XP.

If the end of support was a surprise then see

and the fact that the license availability for Windows 2000 Professional has
already ended (March 2004 for OEM and retail and March 2005 for system
builder) see

was perhaps a valid debate 2 years ago, but there isn't much choice left
now.
