Since the Samsung 710t is rated at 16.2 million colors instead of 16.7, that means its an 18-bit panel and uses dithering, right? If so, is it annoying enough to cause discomfort to the average home gamer/movie watcher, or does it only really affect the serious photoshop crowd?

Yes, it is an 18 bit display. Games definitely aren't noticeable, though movies can be at times. I don't typically watch movies on my 710T though, so I only have limited experience on that front. In any case, I don't think I would call it discomforting.
